The Fort aan Den Ham is one of the 42 forts of the Defence Line of Amsterdam. The former circular permanent defence construction around the capital of The Netherlands. Like a hermetically sealed circle, this would be the last resistance in the defence of the country. The Defence Line was prepared for a siege of about six months. The fort was built between 1896 and 1903 and is located in the Sector Zaandam along the rail road between Krommenie and Uitgeest.

Nowadays it is a tiny museum which different periods of the young (200 years) Dutch military history would show through exhibits and historically furnished rooms. The emphasis is on the period “Stelling van Amsterdam” where this fort belonged to. But there are many more exhibitions of other aspects of the military life to experience. You can become supporter or sponsor of the Fort and its Foundation. Then you support restoration and preservation of the fort and you have free access to open days.
